Greg Goodell was born and raised in upstate New York. When he was 18 he moved to Colorado for a short time and from there joined the military. He served in the United States Army for 3 years spending most of this time in Germany where he met his wife, Christine. He arrived back in the U.S. after serving his country with his new wife. He returned to Greeley and attended Colorado State University where he received his DVM degree. Upon graduation he worked as staff veterinarian at DUO Dairy while pursuing a Masters degree in production medicine. After 7 years with DUO Dairy he started a consulting practice called Advanced Dairy Analysis. His company consulted in areas of reproduction, nutrition, and biosecurity, however specialized in mastitis and health monitoring. In 2003 he put his mastitis expertise to work by starting a milk quality laboratory and in 2004 added bacteriological culture of all tissues to the labs repetoire. Approximately 40% of his time has also been in the area of clinical research bringing cutting edge technology to the clients he consults with. His wife Christine still has a full time job keeping him on track along with his two teenage sons Ryan and Jeremey. Dr. Goodell spends his spare time playing ice hockey and trying to keep up with his boys.
Scott T. Smith grew up in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Marion, NC. He received his DVM degree from North Carolina State University in 1991. After working for a year in a 5 person dairy practice in Sunnyside, Washington he moved to Colorado in 1992. Dr. Smith started The Animal Health Center in 1993, and operated as a solo mixed animal practitioner for 6 years. He has practiced dairy medicine exclusively since 1999. An original member of The Dairy Authority, Dr. Smith actively pursued the addition of on-site ELISA testing in 2004 and currently oversees that area of the diagnostic lab. He has a specific passion for BVD control programs in cattle and is very active in this area. He currently serves as chair of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners BVD committee. Dr. Smith’s other areas of special interest are reproduction, biosecurity infectious diseases, young stock management and personnel training. In his spare time, Dr. Smith is an avid downhill skier and races mountain bikes in the sport division.
Dr. Chris Koeller was raised in rural northwestern Illinois. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1999 and joined a dairy practice in northern Indiana where he practiced for six years. He then moved back to Illinois for a short stint in dairy practice there before finding a home here with The Dairy Authority. Dr. Koeller enjoys working with timed breeding programs, troubleshooting nutritional problems, disease management, and calf rearing. His wife Brooke keeps him out of trouble and has taken a reprieve from her career to keep track of their two young boys Gabe and Caleb. They all keep him busy when he is not working. With any leftover time, Dr. Koeller enjoys hunting and plans to take his oldest son fishing for the first time.
Dr. Chris Malherbe was born and raised in South East Ohio. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1998. He then went on to Colorado State University to complete an internship in food animal medicine. After his internship he joined a 17 doctor dairy practice in the central valley of California. He and his wife both missed the mountains and high desert climate and decided to move back to Colorado after 3 years in California. The past 5 ½ years he has been the herd veterinarian/manager of Bella Holsteins in Platteville, Colorado. Dr. Malherbe’s areas of interest include records evaluation, reproductive management, employee training and management, and fresh cow transition problems. His wife is also a veterinarian specializing in small animal medicine. They have two little girls who keep them very busy when they are not working.
